Health and Safety October Update

Health and Safety October Update

Topic of the month – Driving for work

Most of us drive for work to one extent or another, whether it is regular long-distance trips to work at client sites, or short infrequent trips to collect stock or collect some envelopes from Asda. As a company we need to look at all our driving activities and introduce appropriate and proportionate controls where necessary.

For RCD this will involve making sure staff can drive legally, are competent, have safe vehicles and that our work arrangements  (shift times and lengths etc) allow for safe driving.

Keep an eye out for the email notification to link to the October toolbox talk (please read, sign and return) and our driving for work arrangements and risk assessment, which have been uploaded to the documents section of BrightHR - accessed through a browser on the button below or the BrightHR app on your phone.

Upcoming Health and Safety Training

We have just procured a new training management system called HandSHQ. As part of the set-up of the system we have created role-based training profiles, meaning that a number of training courses have been identified as required depending on the role you do, and which you may not previously have been asked to complete.

As a result of this you will start to receive email notifications from the HandsHQ system and/or Angela or myself advising that training needs to be completed, by when and how to access the course.

We know we can’t do all this at once, so we are approaching it in a pragmatic way, but we will start to drip feed these through to you over a period of time depending on whether the course is eLearning e.g. driving for work, or in person training such as the recent non licensed asbestos course (see photo above!). Please complete these as promptly as possible when you are notified.

Reminder - Storeroom Housekeeping!

When dropping off or collecting stock from the storeroom or the container at the office please leave the areas tidy. A recent audit found pretty much all the walkways cluttered with stock and inaccessible!

We are starting to introduce our asset tracking system.

This will help us monitor equipment and also our inspection regime where required e.g. PAT testing / Ladder checks.
You may start to notice the above labels appearing on equipment – More info next month!
